Hi everyone,

I'd like to inform you about our next DW title. Here is what we can share with you about the next chapter of our new horror adventure:

1-) Story goes on from where it left at the end of the first game.
2-) Our main character is still the protagonist of the first game: Howard Loreid.
3-) As the game's title implies we'll be investigating our lineage :) If anyone had delved into the first game's story, this will probably mean very much to them ;)
4-) Game's engine is no longer panaromic. It's a 3D engine now.
5-) Player will use WASD keys to move, Space key to jump,Z to crouch and Left Mouse click to interact with the environment etc..This contol scheme is configurable..
6-) The game is still a point and click adventure with "no action elements". However there will be object interactions like pushing/pulling/throwing things but none of these will test player's dexterity. View style and game mechanics are pretty much same with the previous game. So don't worry, series will not turn into a survival horror :)
7-) We WILL meet Loath Nolder.. in person ;)

Please check this forum for future announcements that we'll make about the game.

Cheers,

Galip

Thats great! I found Dead Reefs which used the same style of of movement very frustrating because I could not change the controls and the WASD always felt wrong to me, to move with those keys.

Well, tbh the panoramic first person view and the rapidly rotating camera were some of the features that make me love the first game.
Now i read about WASD movement and full 3D enviroments. I really dont find it a good idea. I'm afraid that this will affect negative the atmosphere of the game... =/

I really hope so! :)

Anyway, good luck with the realise and hope to find a new publisher soon!

We think 3D movement can really increase player's experience...This was our intentional choice to implement the rest of the story, since a panaromic engine won't be suitable in some areas.
Anyway, we'll do our best to keep the atmosphere of the first panaramic game. I'm sure you'll find it very similar when you played the demo.

Thanks! We already found one! We're going to announce it very soon ;)

Excellent :)
Is it too early to ask if we will see anything from the game on the Gamescom in Cologne in August? :-D

Iceberg Interactive Acquires Publishing Rights for Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage

Haarlem, The Netherlands – June 1st 2009

Recently formed videogame publisher Iceberg Interactive and developer Zoetrope Interactive are delighted to announce the signing of the publishing rights to Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage, a ‘Lovecraftian’-style adventure game for the PC platform. The rights acquired are for Europe (including Russia, but with the exception of Turkey, Spain and Italy). The game is set for release in Q1-2010.

In the same deal, Iceberg Interactive also acquired the rights for the first instalment Darkness Within1: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder for the same territories, for immediate re-release at a budget price point. Both games will be bundled in the future as well. With the signing of the Darkness Within franchise Iceberg Interactive expands its rapidly growing portfolio of games.

While keeping the same Lovecraftian style of eerie storytelling, the varied and dynamic puzzles and the unique ‘thinking screen’, Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage will provide an upgrade with graphics now in full 3D and a longer playing time.

Erik Schreuder, CEO of Iceberg Interactive says: “We are thrilled to sign up the original Darkness Within game and especially its successor The Dark Lineage. Adventure gamers will have an even greater thrill and chill while playing Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage than they did before, and they will see the Darkness Within saga come to an exciting conclusion.”

Zoetrope Interactive’s Onur Samli: "We are very happy to start working with Iceberg Interactive. We know that with Iceberg Interactive's extensive industry experience and its all-veteran team, Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage is in good hands."

Complete list of game features:

* A new and more advanced game engine:
o With the new and more advanced version of the original game engine of Darkness Within, you can move anywhere you want, light up your way with light sources that cast real-time soft shadows and realistically lift up, push, pull or throw objects with the power of NVIDIA® PhysX™ engine.
* Built-in Hint System with 3 Difficulty Levels:
o Players can choose to play in Standard, Detective or Senior Detective modes.
* Dynamic Puzzles and Features:
o Traditional adventure game puzzles are complimented by deciphering dreams, underlining excerpts in documents to garner critical clues and interacting physically with the environment.
* Enhanced Gameplay Experience:
o The proprietary fully 3D real-time game engine enables compelling special effects, stunning visuals, and dynamic lighting and shading, in a first person game environment.
* Eerie Gameplay Atmosphere:
o An immersive experience is created by a fascinating Lovecraftian story, chilling real-time cut scenes, and haunting music.

So from what I understand Iceberg has publishing rights in Europe, who would be publishing it in North America?

Yes you are right. It's uncertain right now but we are currently looking for an American publisher.

Hi everyone,

we're right in the middle of Q1 2010 so... is there at least a rumor of an upcoming announcement?

Cheers,

I don't really expect a sequel.
If the devs continue from either ending, it would probably break the Lovecraft theme in the series.
However, you can always pull something out like Penumbra 3. If you finished both games you know what am I getting at.
